Dear Michio Horikawa,
The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, UK, and Black Dog Publishing are
producing a book called 'On Location: Siting Robert Smithson and his
Contemporaries' to accompany an exhibition called 'On Location: Art, Space
and Place in the 1960s' which opens at the Sainsbury Centre in September.
We are borrowing The Shinano River Plan, 2001, from the Tate Archive and we
would like to reproduce an image of this work in the book - a copy of the
image we have received from Tate is attached. I am therefore writing to ask
your permission to reproduce the image. If you are happy for us to go ahead
with this, please complete and return the attached form to me at your
earliest convenience.

テートモダンのアーカイブにある「石を送るメールアート」2点をNorwichでの企画で展示するという知らせで、早速OKの返事をしました。展覧会の会期は9月23日〜12月14日。オープニングの案内も9月になって届きましたが、現地がロンドンから電車で2時間くらいとということで展示を見に行くという決断はなかなかできません。かなりのお金も必要ですし、全くの自費ということですので躊躇しましたが、思い切って行ってこようと10月の下旬に決断。11月28日〜12月5日までのロンドン〜パリ9日間の旅をしてきました。その様子を３回に分けて紹介します。
まずはNorwichのSainsbury Centre for Visual Arts University of East Angliaでの 'On Location: Art, Space and Place in the 1960s'での展示風景です。
会場は大学の中の施設でした。
「石を送るメールアート」2点。開始当時は非芸術を標榜していた行為の産物が時代を経て立派なアートとなっていました。
黒い石は The Shinano River Plan-2000.12.08-
灰色石は The Shinano River Plan-2001.01.01-
2点はCentury展（2001年2月〜4月 東京セクションキューレターは富井玲子）展示されたものです。
向こう側にある作品はロバート・スミッソンのNon-site:Line of Wreckage,Bayonne,New Jersey,1968.で、もちろん初めて見ました。また、大作家の隣での展示ということで本当に嬉しく光栄でした。
東京ビェンナーレのカタログのページも展示。このことは知らされていなかったので感激でした。
カタログを作成するという当時の先進的な意味の実証例と受け止めた次第です。
